Roland 原廠 SMF (Standard MIDI File) 磁片的編號相當有系統，而且早在 1991 年就已經確認編碼原則。用 RJL-1002J 來舉例：
RJL–1002J
開頭的 RJ 推測是 Roland Japan 的縮寫，這是固定不變的。
第 3 碼則是專輯形態分類，目前蒐集到的編號有 B C G L S T X Y ，但各代表什麼意思，我還是沒能看出來，只覺得 G 類型的好像多是鋼琴為主旋律的輕音樂。
第 4 碼為 199x 年份的 x，x 從 1 – 0，0 其實是 2000 年而不是 1990 年。所以 Roland SMF 前後最多大概就是 10 年的時間。
接下來的 3 碼表示該年分的出版序號。我見過一年之中出過最多的號碼到 15 (RJG-8015J 這張)，還沒見過更大的，所以總會覺得這裡用三位數似乎是保留太多了啊…
最後一碼似乎都是 J，推測也還是 Japan 的意思。也許當年 Roland 有規劃，如果是美國 Roland 出版的 SMF 或許就會掛上 A (America) 或 U (USA) 的代碼吧，不過始終沒有見過就是了。
這邊順便記錄一下 Roland GM/GS 音源器在 音色取樣/音色數 有細微變化的年代，並且根據國外大神們的討論，覺得 Roland Sound Canvas 系列的音源大致分成四個階段，每個階段都無法做到 100% 向前相容。
第1階段：
1991- CM-300 / SC-55 / SC-155 / SC-33 / SD-35 / SC-55mkII etc
第2階段：
1994- SC-88 / SC-88 Pro / SC-880 / SK-88 Pro etc
第3階段：
1999- SC-8850 / SC-8820 / SC-D70 / SK-500 etc
第4階段：
2009- SD-50
我會盡量根據 SMF 的年份，挑選與之年代相近的音源器做為錄音來源。譬如 1991 年出版的日本動畫音樂，我就不會拿那個年代還沒有出生的 SC-88 Pro 來錄音。
